CHE IS STLL WITH US

In this week’s LA CityBeat I have a reflection on how the image of Che Guevara (perhaps as a symbol of global resistance) is still potent after more than forty years. (Click to read.)

The secret word is Comandante

Good column, Mick, although the climate change advert on the same page (heavily featuring Tony Blair and Gordon Brown) was weirdly shitty.

The Vintage Magazine shop on Brewer Street sells a T Shirt with the face of Elvis superimposed onto the Korda photo - with the slogan "Viva Las Vegas!" (I liked it). Incidentally, late '70s copies of NME are sold there at £30 each.

Although I haven't seen the DVD you speak of, I have seen many others about Che; some good, others verging on the ridiculous. Most promise 'unseen footage' which in all probability have been 'seen' before or at best a 'new' grainy 3 second clip with Che stage left behind the 3rd left person on the row in the shadow of a Sierra Maestra coffee plant. What's interesting to me about Che, despite the pop art facade there is a real tide of interest that keeps on coming through generation after generation. At times the flame may flicker weakly but it never goes out. The potency is still there
