Around
1946, in the wake of World War II and the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki,
the grand conception was proposed – and supposedly supported by no less than
the eminent biologist Julian Huxley (brother of Aldous – mescaline guy) – that
the Artic should be massively nuked to melt the polar icecap and warm up the
planet for the good and comfort of all mankind.
